The All Whites are lining up a match against Japan before a potential intercontinental world cup playoff.
Midfielder Michael McGlinchey has let slip that New Zealand will be facing the world 21 ranked side in October.
All Whites coach Anthony Hudson said the fixture has yet to be confirmed but emphasised the importance of what will be their last window before a potential shot at a place at next year's world cup.
Hudson said, "one hundred percent we're not going to go into our November game without playing a game in October. I think we learnt a lot from the last campaign and lots of different things, and I said when I was first here we have to play in every window."
The All Whites have to beat the Solomon Islands over two legs to progress to November's intercontinental playoff.
