Wellington Phoenix skipper Andrew Durante's frustrated at the lack of change.
Durante and club mates Tom Doyle and Michael McGlinchey will miss Sunday's A-League season opener due to being with the All Whites in Japan.
Unlike other club competitions, the A-League doesn't follow the international window, leaving the men from the capital severely depleted.
Durante says it can't go on in the current manner.
"The A-League is getting to a point where players are getting better and players are being selected for the national team so there has got to become a point where we have to recognise this national window.
"It just has to happen."
The All Whites match against Japan is this Friday night.
