The recently forged free trade deal with Korea is being seen as critical for New Zealand sheep and beef farmers and meat exporters.
Beef and Lamb says the Free Trade Agreement will be a significant step toward reducing the amount of tariffs paid on our red meat exports.
It says the deal keeps New Zealand competitive in this key market.
Close to 90 percent of our $8.5 billion sheep and beef sector is exported.
$318 million of tariffs were paid in 2013, with $52 million of that going to Korea - New Zealand’s fourth-largest beef market by volume.
