The Government has announced a $7.5 million cash boost for primary sector exports.

Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy has made the post-Budget announcement in Wairarapa today.

The money's earmarked over two years to help with identifying new farming systems, as well as encouraging more people to get into the primary sector.

There will also be an international focus, with the MPI aiming to build international trust in Kiwi products.

It's estimated the primary sector needs an additional 50,000 workers by 2025 and Guy adds MPI plans to continue to work with the Ministry of Education in a bid to entice young Kiwis into primary sector jobs.

"The 20 percent increase for agriculture at tertiary level in Budget 2015 is also an important step."
