UPDATED 11.00AM: More than 80 polling places are opening their doors across Northland for today's by-election.
Polls are open until 7 this evening.
There's been a solid contribution from advance voters, with more than 11 thousand Northlanders casting their votes early.
Advance vote results are due out 7.30, and the full preliminary result should be through by about 10pm.
