The new Police Minister has the Prime Minister on his side, after revealing a decades-old conviction for drink-driving.
Michael Woodhouse says he received the conviction 27 years ago, aged 21.
He disclosed the conviction to the National Party, before becoming a candidate in 2008.
John Key is shrugging off the issue.
