Prime Minister Bill English has confirmed he'll fly to Queenstown this week for a meeting with top officials from the countries that make up the Five Eyes spy network -Â the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
They're meeting at the five-star Millbrook resort outside the town and English will meet with them there tomorrow night.
"It's just part of the regular cycle of conferences held by the people we work with most closely on security," English said.
English wouldn't go into details about his meeting or the conference, other than saying "all the current issues" would be up for discussion.
He wouldn't confirm who's there but FBI director James Comey is known to have arrived.
CIA director Mike Pompeo is reported to be attending as well.
Chris Finlayson, the minister responsible for the SIS and the GCSB, is attending the conference.
English was asked why the visitors' jets had moved to Invercargill and joked that it was probably a more attractive destination if they wanted to have a good holiday.
"It's unfortunate they didn't have to drive through Dipton to get there."
Dipton is Mr English's hometown.
