The Education Minister's hitting back against accusations she's dropping standards to get charter schools over the line.
Whangaruru's charter school in Northland is facing major issues, with Hekia Parata issuing a formal warning that it has a month to show it can fix the problems, or be closed down.
Labour's accused Ms Parataof gaming the system by dropping the number of qualified teachers the school needs to employ.
She says it's not a problem.
"Having teachers who have a particular set of skills but aren't registered is not lowering the standards, it means providing a pathway to kids who are involved in vocational opportunities."
