The next State Services Commissioner, and Head of State Services, is being described as a man who's well-placed to understand the crucial role the public services play in New Zealanders' lives.
Peter Hughes will take up the role in July 2016 for a five-year term - replacing the outgoing Commissioner Iain Rennie.
The Public Service Association says Mr Hughes has been an effective CEO and Secretary for Education, and has spent his working life in the public service.
PSA National Secretary Glenn Barclay says Mr Hughes will also appreciate how much PSA members love their jobs, and the commitment they have to doing an excellent job every day.
