There are few surprises and little cause for dummy-spitting by candidates in the National Party's list for this year's election.

Party president Peter Goodfellow has released his party's list this afternoon, with farmers, teachers, community advocates and even a pilot on it.

He said it is a diverse and rejuvenated list, with new MPs likely to enter Parliament alongside 47 returning MPs.  He added the party is incredibly proud to represent New Zealanders from all walks of life, with a range of ethnicities and backgrounds.

The top 21 are ranked according to their cabinet ranking, except for Speaker David Carter at number three.

They are followed by the party's whips, list MP and Ohariu candidate Brett Hudson, and Wellington Central newcomer Nicola Wills.

Eleven National MPs are retiring this election: Hekia Parata, list; Murray McCully, East Coast Bays; Craig Foss, Tukituki; Jo Goodhew, Rangitata; Chester Borrows, Whanganui; Peseta Sam Lotu-Iga, Maungakiekie; Lindsay Tisch, Waikato; Maurice Williamson, Pakuranga; Paul Foster-Bell, list; Jono Naylor, list; and Todd Barclay, Clutha-Southland.

Barclay's was a late retirement - the result of a scandal involving his recording an electorate secretary's conversations.
His replacement has not yet been selected but that candidate will be placed at No 68 on the list.
