National Party campaign chair, Steven Joyce said Labour's acting as if it had nothing to do with the programme.
"This is a Labour Party programme, set up by their guys and they have to front up, and they have to apologise for bringing the students here on false pretenses and face up to the consequences of having them on the wrong visas."
Joyce believes Labour's volunteer scandal is on a par with the problems his party faces around MP Todd Barclay.
Labour Party General Secretary Andrew Kirton said it's his understanding participants were told they were required to have the correct visa.
The Labour Party said it is in the dark as to why the visas of foreign student campaign volunteers weren't double checked.
When asked why the volunteers' visas weren't checked, Kirton said one would assume that would be a prudent measure to take.
"I have no information about what was and wasn't done."
