Labour's eying up closer political ties with New Zealand First after Winston Peters' success in the Northland by-election.
Andrew Little says the parties have different policies and identities, but they're compatible.
"If there's anything we can possibly do together, it just makes opposition more effective is in terms of calling government to account, which is what the opposition is there for."
Andrew Little and Winston Peters have still to get together to talk about how they might co-ordinate their opposition to the government.
The Labour leader is looking forward to it - but says they're still trying to find spaces in their diaries.
"There's a possibility it might happen while I'm in Auckland today, but I'm still waiting for confirmation. It may well be after Easter now."
Labour and New Zealand First have previously been in government together, between 2005 and 2008 under the Prime Ministership of Helen Clark.Â
However, neither have been in government since.
