Labour's to tax international visitors at the border - to pay for the infrastructure they use and offset the impact they have on our country.

Tourism spokesperson Kris Faafoi made the announcement in Rotorua, which is one of New Zealand's tourism hot-spots.

He said they'll put a 25 dollar tax on tourists, which will pay for a $75 million dollar a year Tourism and Conservation Infrastructure Fund.

Kris Faafoi said the new fund will pay for those facilities that are currently under strain from over-use, with 30 million a year going towards protecting and enhancing our native environment.

"We've put aside $9 million dollars for industry training for tourism and we've also created another fund there for high volume areas."

He said Labour will work with officials, customs and airlines to work out the most efficient way to collect it.
