A Green MP's been dubbed "barking mad" over his support for homeopathy to treat Ebola.

Steffan Browning's one of five thousand people who've signed an online petition, urging the World Health Organisation to give alternative medicine a go against the deadly virus.

He's admitted that was a misstep, and John Key can't help but agree.

"There's only a 70 percent chance of survival even if you get the best medical care, so to sort of argue some homeopath drug is actually going to solve your issues if you have Ebola is either misguided or taking the mickey."

Despite this, homeopaths are confident they have something to offer in the fight against Ebola.

Green MP Steffan Browing got into hot water with the rest of his party yesterday, after signing a petition calling for homeopathy to be used to help contain the outbreaks.

The party quickly distanced itself from his views.

But Council of Homeopaths spokeswoman Gwyneth Evans is enthusiastic about the idea.

She says they'd be delighted to collaborate with WHO, to share their expertise and ease suffering caused by the Ebola outbreak.
