National MPs are being told to to make up their own minds about whether or not they attend Falun Gong celebrations next week.
Falun Gong is banned in China where it's treated as a cult.
The MPs were warned off the events by the Foreign Minister on the advice of his ministry because their attendance could upset China.
Prime Minister John Key says it's up to the MPs what they do.
"I think they should think through their actions and make their own call, but in the end, I wouldn't go to one."
