The first hint has been dropped by New Zealand First that a leadership change is underway.
It's widely rumoured that deputy Tracey Martin is being challenged for the role by Ron Mark.
The New Zealand First leader says a vote on the top jobs is long overdue, but was delayed because of the Northland by-election.
Mr Peters refused to be drawn on whether Ron Mark has challenged current deputy Tracy Martin for the job.
He also stopped short of saying he has confidence in her occupying the role, but did say "we've got some seriously good talent in New Zealand First, and Tracey's done a marvellous job in the education portfolio."
Fellow MP Barbara Stewart has accidentally confirmed something is due to be announced on Friday.
"You'll have to wait for the announcement."
But for a second day, Ron Mark won't answer questions.
He told reporters "no there's no such thing" before pushing through the scrum.
She's refusing to say if she retains the post.
Ms Martin is refusing to say if she retains the post.
"Oh, I've got no comment at this time," she breezily announced before speeding away from reporters asking questions."
Â
Press scrums increasingly manic trying for answers on NZ First. Journo who shall remain unnamed just walked smack into a marble pillar. Ow.
