A concrete solution to an embarrassing problem.
That's how the Greens are selling their remuneration proposal, which would see movements in MPs' salaries pegged to median incomes.
Co-leader Russel Norman says using the excuse that higher salaries are needed to attract good talent, doesn't wash.
"MPs are currently paid over $150,000, so I don't really think there's a problem getting people into these jobs."
Norman says the way his Parliamentary colleagues have reacted to it is ridiculous.
"All the MPs come out and say, 'oh no, that's terrible', but they don't change the law which of course MPs could do overnight if they wanted to."
The Remuneration Authority has granted politicians a 5.5 percent pay rise backdated to July, which will see backbenchers earn an extra $8200 dollars annually.
