The Green Party's not giving up on the Paris Climate accord just yet, even though the USA is a chance to withdraw from the international agreement.

President-elect Donald Trump has publicly criticised both the agreement and climate change science, and with him due to take office next week a cloud hangs over the US commitments made by Barack Obama.

But Green Party Co-Leader James Shaw said it's yet to be determined how much room to manoeuvre President Trump actually has, given the US has already entered into the agreement.

"He's yet to take office and we've yet to see what he actually does once he is actually in government.

He has a history of making kind of grand pronouncements and then sort of walking backwards from them when the detail becomes more obvious to him"
