The Government's had the numbers to get its proposed security laws past their first reading in Parliament.
After weeks of raising concerns about measures that include warrant-less surveillance for the SIS and three-year cancellation of passports both Labour and New Zealand First decided to back the legislation in Parliament tonight.
It means the Bill will now go to shortened select committee hearings before being returned to Parliament and being passed into law before the end of the year.
The Green Party's been the only party to oppose the legislation.
