Labour is demanding there be further investigation into the Whanau Ora scheme.

It follows an Auditor General's report that found around a third of the policy's budget has been spent on administration costs.

Labour Leader Andrew Little says a thorough investigation of Whanau Ora providers must now be a high priority given the Auditor General's findings.

"She's drawn the conclusion that up to $42 million has been ill-directed or ill-spent. I think we need to know exactly what that means. What is poorly spent - what has it been poorly spent on?"

And his family might be involved in the provision of Whanau Ora services but New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is still demanding the scheme be scrapped.

Mr Peters is adamantly opposed to the scheme, despite his sister being involved in it.

"Well excuse me, nobody's going to say, when they're dependent on government for money, and preferential money at that, noone's going to criticise that are they?"
