A just released Ombudsman's report reveals a pro-life group tried to obtain the correspondence of women and health workers, who said they'd been harassed by anti-abortion protestors.
According to the report, the Right To Life group had requested the information from the Abortion Supervisory Committee.
The allegations were that pro-life activists had made threats against health workers.
Right To Life said it was after the correspondence so it could identify specific complaints in order that it could investigate to ensure members of its movement weren't responsible for the alleged harassment.
The Abortion Supervisory Committee turned down the request and so too has the Office of the Ombudsmen.
Ombudsman Ron Paterson accepts the committee's submission that the information was highly confidential and supplied in confidence.
He's also ruled it's not a proper function of Right To life to investigate the veracity of the complaints that's the role of the affected District Health Board.
