A change in government could lead to change in thinking around a plastic bag levy in the capital.
The Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Committee is meeting next week, to lobby the new government over the levy.
Committee co-chair Iona Pannett said they have the powers to lobby government on particular issues such as the plastic bag levy.
"The local government sector has called for a levy on plastic bags, it has been a very strong call. So we think there is a mandate for change and hope that whatever government is in power will listen."
Pannett said they also want changes to the waste levy.
"The way that the waste levy is calculated unfortunately doesn't provide councils with the sufficient incentive to do the right thing."
