The Government says it's broken no pledges over the promised 10 new bridges for Northland.
The bridges were promised during the by-election campaign but New Zealand Transport Agency funding plans reveal only four have been approved while another three have been ruled out entirely
Transport Minister Simon Bridges is adamant it's not a broken promise and the Government remains committed to 10 bridges being built.
He doesn't "think it's unusual though um, for um, the government to do projects that don't necessarily meet the transport agency's criteria. I think we do that very often."
However, the government is being accused of welching on its promise.
Labour Leader Andrew Little described it as "an election boondoggle."
"There was always doubt whether they were committed to doing it."
He saw the bridge promise as an attempt to derail Winston Peters' ultimately successful campaign.
"It gave the impression they could do it, and we always doubted they could."
