A political party that once helped form a government is no more.
The Electoral Commission's announced the Alliance party has had its registration as a political party cancelled at the party's request.
It sees the end of a movement founded in 1991 when New Labour, the Greens, Mana Motuhake, and the Democratic party joined forces under the leadership of Wigram MP Jim Anderton.
The party hit its peak in 1999 when it went into Government with the Labour Party with 10 MPs.
It broke apart later in that term after its caucus split over Labour's decision to support US military action in Afghanistan.
Following the split it never again achieved parliamentary representation.
