Things became heated at an Auckland University Students Association "anti-debate."

The event was aimed at giving some of the lesser known mayor-hopefuls a platform.

Things turned ugly when David Hay turned up late - and wanted to speak.

He was shouted down by other candidates, particularly Alezix Heneti, before the event as a whole descended into a farce. 

Writing on The Daily Blog, moderator Martyn Bradbury said it was left to young candidate Chloe Swarbrick to intervene and break it up.
