Zero speeding tolerance to have minimal effect?

A road safety campaigner's come out swinging against the police's new strategy that will see zero tolerance to speeding.

Dog and Lemon editor Clive Matthew-Wilson told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking ticketing motorists will have no effect on the groups who cause most road deaths.

"Only about 20 percent of fatalities actually even occur over the speed limit. In other words, 80 percent of the road toll occurs below the speed limit, so at best this is going to affect a fifth of accidents."

Clive Matthew-Wilson says of those, most involve either drunks, motorcyclists or young working-class males who live on the edge of the law.
