A sigh of relief for Aucklanders as World Masters Games organisers aren't predicting the opening ceremony will cause traffic chaos.

Around 28,000 participants and spectators will be at the Eden Park ceremony tonight.

Athletes aged 25 to 101 will compete in 28 different sports.

Liaison Manager for Auckland Transport John Strawbridge said they're prepared for the crowds.

"We've put a solution in place here to move those athletes and supporters the same as we would for an All Black test match, so it's pretty comprehensive right across the network."

Strawbridge said to combat predicted congestion on the western rail line, they're sending bigger trains that way.

"I'm sure it'll be busy on the network, but it's actually not a really busy Auckland night anyway, we're just adding a little bit of colour to the mix."

Chief executive of the games Jennah Wootten has also assured Aucklanders there'll be police and security on hand, but they aren't expecting any trouble.

"Our participants are just so excited, they're here to have a great time, they're keen to mix with locals, the entertainment hub is all about good, honest fun."
