WorkSafe says it can't be in every forest every day, but it's working to increase its presence in the forestry sector.
Two workers have been killed in the past week and another was seriously injured yesterday.
WorkSafe forestry spokesman Grant Duffy says forestry workplaces now hold daily safety meetings before they start the job.
He said the agency has also been increasing its presence on the ground over the past three years.
"We've made a commitment to visit every forest contract and crew in the country. We're focusing on critical risk areas - tree-falling, breaking out."
He said that WorkSafe is also increasing its presence in Gisborne and running programmes at marae.
Mr Duffy also added that while forestry fatalities and serious injuries are becoming far less common, no life should ever be put in jeopardy for the sake of felling another tree.
"[There are] families, workmates, communities and loved ones who are just devastated. They've had a workmate who's gone to work and hasn't come home. It's a tragic, tragic event."
