Tauranga is set to get an influx of visitors now that it's home to the National Sevens Tournament.

The rugby tournament will be held in December next year in the Tauranga Domain.

CEO of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce Stan Gregec thinks it will be fantastic for local business and hospitality.

"It's going to be pretty significant. We'll need to step up in accommodation and all the services we'll need to handle an event of this size.

He said he is not sure how many rugby fans to expect but predicts there'll be a lot of work to be done in the lead up to event.

"For a start, we'll have to get our stadium into ship shape and the surrounding area. I think that it's a great opportunity for Tauranga."
