Winston Peters has declared the re-building of the Christchurch Cathedral a bottom line, should he be a part of any Government post-September.
Yesterday the New Zealand First leader told a public gathering at the Cathedral Square they have his personal undertaking, that if rebuilding doesn’t start now, he will make sure it happens the day after the election.
Peters said the Government should've taken action a long time ago to get it started.
He said a trust can be formed, through legislation, to take over the project and the Government should contribute much more than the10 to 15 percent offered so far.
Labour's Canterbury spokesperson Megan Woods is open to working with New Zealand First on a solution for the Christ Church Cathedral.
Woods said she is happy to work with any political party to get progress on the cathedral, New Zealand First included.
She said the Working Party Report Government released last week by the Government provides a blueprint.
"I think the most important thing is that we get some very clear timeframes around this, what we now need to see is an action plan," she said.
