Three people have been caught after leading police on a chase along train tracks north of Wellington.
The drama started around 9am when police spotted a Subaru station wagon in Paekakariki, stolen from Palmerston North.
The occupants dumped the car and escaped on foot, running north along the railway line.
A police spokesperson said a short foot chase ensued, but with the help of dogs the three offenders were captured by 9.45am.
They are due in court later today.
The escapade has resulted in significant delays for train passengers on the Kapiti line.
MetLink said services had now resumed, however commuters should still expect delays as they are not running exactly to timetable.
Buses have been sent to Paekakariki to help clear the backlog.
