An Auckland man is warning people against buying event tickets on resale websites, after he was scammed.

Bruce Morgan went to buy tickets to next month's New Zealand versus Tonga match via the official New Zealand Rugby League website.

He was redirected to 'Viagogo' - a site which claims to be a platform that enables customers to exchange tickets online.

Mr Morgan opted for two tickets, just five seats away from the action, for 217 Australian dollars.

But when the tickets arrived in the mail, they weren't in the area he selected, and were worth just 20 dollars each.

The website has refused to refund Mr Morgan.
