If you've got dollar signs in your eyes as you head for the Lotto queues this morning, keep the odds in mind.Â
The odds of winning the whopping $38 million First Division jackpot are about one in 3.8 million, according to Problem Gambling Foundation spokesperson Andree Froude.
Froude said while Lotto isn't one of the more harmful forms of gambling, a big jackpot can cause people to spend outside their means.
"The attitude is they've gotta be in to win and people are just chasing that elusive dream.
"Lotto does very aggressive advertising so they're seeing ads on TV or at Lotto outlets."
She said although Lotto doesn't have the same addictive pull as other forms of gambling, there are still risks.
"Our concern is around people who are spending more than they can afford and certainly if they're spending the family's food budget on Lotto tickets."
Froude said people need to remember that buying a ticket is a gamble.
