One of the biggest financial redresses in the history of Treaty of Waitangi claims is a step closer.
The Crown and representatives of hapu around Wairoa, in northern Hawke's Bay, have signed a treaty settlement deed at Parliament.
It includes financial redress of $100 million for Te Tira Whakaemi o Te Wairoa.
If ratified by the iwi and hapu, it will be the fifth biggest Treaty of Waitangi Settlement for financial redress.
Members of the hapu will now be asked to vote on the settlement deed.
