Duck shooting season starts today - the one day of the year hunters hope for miserable weather and moan when they get blue skies instead.

MetService says it looks like this year will be the same...with sunshine forecast pretty much everywhere.

Meteorologist John Law says there's little hope of weather for ducks.

"Looking like a good weekend if you had to endure the sunshine, although I think if you're looking for cloud and low cloud there could be a struggle to come."
