Two dead after crashes in Auckland and Hamilton

Two people have been killed following seperate crashes in Auckland and Hamilton this morning.

About 7.30am a pedestrian died after being hit by a car in Auckland.

The crash happened on Oteha Valley Rd, Northcross, on the North Shore, a police spokeswoman said.

The road has been closed and diversions put in place between Medallion Dr and East Coast Rd.

Resident Jun Pyo was about to turn left onto Oteha Valley Rd when he came across the scene.

He said he wasn't sure whether the white Mazda stationwagon or a maxi taxi, which is obscured from his photo, was involved, however both were left parked on the median strip.

He said the crash happened in between Harrowglen Dr and East Coast Rd.

Witnesses have commented on Facebook saying the victim was a woman, who was hit by a car driven by a male. 

The police serious crash unit is on its way.

Meanwhile, in Hamilton, a man is dead and two others are injured after a crash in Flagstaff this morning.

Police say it appears that three cars were involved in the crash, on River Rd, at 8.20am.

One woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A third person was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Cordons are in place on River Rd, near the intersection with Kay Rd.

The road was expected to be closed for several hours while the Serious Crash Unit investigations
