Deeper links with our closest neighbour are on the agenda today at the Australia-New Zealand Leadership Forum conference.

It's the 10th time the event has been held, and this year it's focusing on trade, tourism and progress towards the Single Economic Market between the two countries.

Forum co-chair, and chief executive of Auckland Airport, Adrian Littlewood, says there are certain high-value sectors where the countries can work together.

"We've recently joined for the Square Kilometre Array Project.

"What other ideas are there in different sectors like technology and healthcare where we can work together."

Littlewood says close economic relations is as important as political relations.

"The support of two Prime Ministers attending the forum is very important and obviously backs on to the Anzac centenary celebrations and the Cricket World Cup the next day."

Prime Ministers John Key and Tony Abbott will be addressing the forum later on today.
