UPDATED 4.47pm: It now looks as if it'll be tomorrow before the outcome of TPP talks in the United States will be known.

An announcement had been expected today but a planned press conference, where announcement of a deal was expected, was twice delayed before being postponed indefinitely.

There are now reports from US-based media that negotiations are continuing and the press conference has been cancelled until sometime tomorrow morning.

Trade Minister Tim Groser is at the current round of talks in Atlanta, where a media conference was scheduled for this morning.

But it hasn't taken place, and no-one is saying why.

Some sources suggest there's been progress on the crucial question of dairy access.

One of the US groups opposing the TPP is the Popular Resistance Network.

Co-director Margaret Flowers said if a deal is not reached there could be a further stall in the sign off.

"If they're not able to make that progress then they then stop these talks and meet again in November when the Trade Ministers will be together again in Manila in the Philippines for the APEC."

She reports the negotiations are stuck on the same four issues which blocked progress in Maui.

"Automotive's, dairy, the patents for pharmaceuticals and also the issue of tobacco ... we heard that they were making some progress on the automotive issues."
