The number of violent threats against Fish and Game officers in Rotorua is increasing as they crack down on poachers.
Fish and Game officers patrolling streams feeding into Lake Rotorua have dealt with over 25 poaching offences, over the past few weeks.
Officer Anthony van Dorp says they've been increasing their presence in the area, and as a result poachers have been threatening staff, giving false names and obstructing officers.
"Certainly if that's serious enough to have staff fear for their safety.
"And these offenders also seem to be carrying knives."
