Chris Brown's entry into New Zealand has the backing of Brian Tamaki.

The Destiny Church leader posted a video inviting Brown to contribute to the church's Man Up programme - which aims to help male members of the congregation with troubled backgrounds.

Mr Tamaki said people often need more than just one chance to make amends.

"Especially from this type of domestic violence, how can they have the opportunity to believe they can change to be better people, if society continually berates them and shuts the door on them?

Brian Tamaki said Brown should be given the chance to show he's reformed, or has at least begun the process.

"Even if it comes to physical violence, and assault that it has been with Chris, I'm telling you something now, they're going to need the ability to not have a 2nd chance, I'm talking about a 3rd, 4th and 5th chance."

Former Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia has lent her support to Chris Brown entering the country to perform, but the move has angered many domestic violence advocates, who argue the singer has not changed his ways.
