A walkout has been described as the only option left for up to 200 support workers who will be protesting at midday in Hamilton.

Members of the Public Service Association and E tu unions are protesting after failed negotiations with Community Living Limited turned sour.

PSA National Secretary Glenn Barclay said these workers who support people with intellectual disabilities aren't getting recognition for the difficult work they do.

"Remember these are workers that for most of them, it's the first time they've ever taken any industrial action. But they feel they've got no choice."

The walkout is between 12 and 2pm this afternoon.
