Wellington Zoo is throwing its support behind plans to microchip all the Capital's cats.
The Wellington City Council is this week hearing oral submissions on its controversial Animal Bylaw and Dog policy.
It includes plans to microchip cats and limit their numbers.
Wellington Zoo's Karen Fifield said compulsory micro-chipping is a sensible step.
She said in some Australian areas, cats that aren't micro-chipped are immediately put down.
Karen Fifield also wants the council to impose a night curfew on cats.
