Fresh plans have been lodged for a subdivision near a world-renowned Coromandel beach, re-igniting opposition by a group fighting to keep the area free of development.

New Chum Beach is accessible only by foot.

It's been ranked among the most beautiful on the planet and was this week mentioned by New York magazine.

Owners of land bordering the beach have lodged an application to subdivide 60 hectares into four lots..

They say the subdivision would not be visible from the beach and public access would be guaranteed by a fifth conservation lot managed by a proposed charitable trust.
