Wellington Regional Stadium officials have accepted responsibility for struggling to cope with capacity crowds at the cricket.

Friday's Black Caps Cricket World Cup match against England was a sell-out, the first time a cricket match has ever sold out at the stadium.

But fans says organisers weren't prepared, with long queues to buy food and drink.

Stadium Chief Executive Shane Harmon says the delays were caused by a number of staff no-shows, and problems with accreditation - but ultimately it comes down to them.

"I think the onus is really on us to make sure we have all of our outlets open at the beginning ready to go. We're going to be getting to the bottom of that to make sure it doesn't happen again."

He says he's confident the issues will be sorted for this Sunday's match when England play Sri Lanka.
