Updated 8.20am: Another twist in the St Bede's rowing saga.
The school's top coaches won't be back next season..
Alex Meates and David Lindstrom have stepped down because of what they call the school's over-reaction to a security breach by two students at Auckland Airport
David Lindstrom says the school overrode his authority with a response that was completely over the top.
Mediation may have saved a Christchurch school and two families a lot of stress.
Parents involved in the St Bede's College rowing saga have now dropped all legal action against the school.
The case and its repercussions have been discussed from one end of the country to the other.
Arbitrators and Mediators Institute executive director Deborah Hart says a lot of pain may have been avoided if both parties had sat down with a mediator.
"It's not a matter of if these kids did something wrong, or didn't they. It's about what processes do you want to put in place to deal with these things, and that's what we want people to think about."
As the dust starts to settle on the St Bede's rowing debacle, there's a suggestion we could all learn a lesson from it.
Social media commentator Donald Matheson says throughout the saga, people jumped on social media to air their views - it seemed nobody was thinking about the consequences.
"We've all got an opinion on this but these are real people's lives and sometimes pausing before hitting that post button is a good thing to do."
