New Zealand's third mobile network is getting into the landline game.
2degrees Mobile has bought Snap Internet for an undisclosed sum.
CEO Stewart Sheriff says it'll see the emergence of a new, bigger 2degrees offering mobile and fixed line services.
"It will be a slow transition, Snap definitely has a bigger presence down in the South Island."
Telecommunications Users Association chief executive Craig Young says it's a logical move and will increase competition.
"I can't tell about pricing but certainly they're going to be competing on service and we're going to keep the big guys on it."
Affected customers will be contacted in the coming months, but Mr Sherrif says they won't notice much more than a name change because the two companies have entirely complementary services.
"There's absolutely no duplication at all, whatsoever, in the company. The transition will be a pain free one."
The total value of the deal isn't being revealed, though it's believed to be in the tens of millions.
