Support is flooding in for the family and workmates of the man who died in a forestry accident yesterday.

The man was injured in an area off Trass Valley Road near Nelson. He was flown to hospital but died shortly after.

The death marks the fourth forestry fatality this year.

The National Safety Director Fiona Ewing says a lot of people in the community will be hurting.

"People will be gutted that this has happened. There used to be an attitude in years gone by that this just happens in forestry, but now that isn't the case, these fatalities are taken very hard."

Ewing also says they have support information on their safe tree website, with the goal to have zero fatalities and zero life changing injuries in the forestry industry a priority.
