A severe weather watch is in place for holiday hotspots in Northland and the Coromandel Peninsula.
MetService says there's a slow moving low, lying to the north of the country.
It means a lot of moist air moving across the upper North Island, bringing rain until tonight.
Coromandel Peninsula is likely to see some heavy falls this afternoon and showers could be thundery over Northland.
