Updated 2.28PM:Â Two rogue seals have made bids for dry land today.
The Department of Conservation is on its way to the Open Polytechnic campus in Lower Hutt near Wellington to remove a seal.
The young pup made its way up the Waiwhetu Stream early this morning, and is now sunning itself on a riverbank backing onto the campus.
Open Polytechnic CEO Caroline Seelig says it's a first for them.
DOC will try remove the seal as it's situated itself in a high residential area.
Earlier today DOC staff herded a seal back into the water in South Auckland after it came ashore at Papakura.
Senior firefighter Dan Van Hoppe said at the time their main goal was to protect people while keeping the animal's welfare in mind.
"It was quite a large seal and they can be dangerous in the wrong circumstances."
The call out was coded a "mammal hazard".
The story exploded on social media, to the extent that a twitter account was created for the seal.
Â
The guys from DOC are treating me right. TBH, I was getting a bit sick of being on land anyway.
