A group of Christchurch school girls stranded in Nepal following the earthquake are due back in New Zealand this afternoon.

Twenty six pupils and four teachers from St Margaret's College were in the country for a three week exhibition, trekking and working to build a school near Kathmandu.

After their flight was initially delayed due to aid taking priority at Kathmandu Airport, the group flew to Guangzhou in China.

They've since been booked on a flight that will see them arrive in Auckland at four o'clock.
